Pesto rosso – what is that?
Quick Italian lesson: "rosso" means "red" Our pesto rosso's name comes from it's colour and the ingredients used, in this case, dried tomatoes and fruity tomato paste. We add a bit of sunflower oil, cashews, tofu, basil, some garlic and a pinch of salt and our red pesto is ready! But now back to the question of what pesto actually is! Pesto comes from Italy and is an uncooked, pasty sauce that is usually served with pasta. The first traditional pesto was made as early as 1863 and is thought to be derived from a Roman herb and cheese sauce - or a medieval variation of a standard Roman condiment. The best-known variety is probably "pesto Genovese", which contains pine nuts and Parmesan cheese as well as basil. Green pesto also tastes great and is available in our shop. It is called "pesto verde", because verde = green. The aromatic sauce gets its colour from Italian basil. As the icing on the cake, cheese is usually added to the pesto pasta dishes. For the vegan version, we recommend our delicious nutritional yeast flakes.
Delicious recipes with pesto
Pesto and pasta belong together, just like dates and hazelnuts. But if you think pesto only works with spaghetti, tortellini, penne and the like, you are mistaken! Have you ever eaten pesto with potatoes, refined your pizza or salad with it? Have you slathered it on your bread or enjoyed it in lasagna or perhaps added it to chicken dishes? If not, it's high time you did! There are countless ways to use the red wonder... We have some ideas for you: Ever heard of a pesto flower? It's a real party hit! First make a dough with flour, yeast, water, some salt and oil, divide it into three parts and roll them all out into a circle. Then spread the first circle with our red (or green) pesto, place the second circle on top, spread the pesto again and place the third circle on top. Now cut the "cake" into equal parts and twist the individual pieces until they form a flower shape. You can find pictures of the whole thing on the internet. Simply delicious!

At KoRo, we analyse the greenhouse gas emissions that are produced during the production of our snacks. These include, among other things, CO2, methane and nitrous oxide. Our hard-working sustainability team collects all the information to calculate a value: the so-called CO2 equivalents. We are now passing this information on to you so that you can make informed purchasing decisions and keep an eye on your personal carbon footprint. We also use these valuable findings ourselves, to try to make our supply chains even smarter in the future and monitor our CO2 footprint.
CO₂ emissions by product
To make the work of our sustainability team easier, we have teamed up with the company Cozero. They support us with their decarbonisation software to calculate the CO2 emissions of our products. Our products go through a lot before they make their way into your pantry or snack bowl, so there is a lot to take into consideration: production, packaging, and logistics – to name just the big steps.
