Seitan is a product made from gluten. Gluten is a wheat protein and a natural component of the popular grain. The gluten is obtained when water is mixed with wheat flour and the starch is washed out. Refined, isn't it? The gluten mass can then be used to cook all kinds of tasty things, and of course we at KoRo can't keep that from you. Our seitan steak is of course perfect for a barbecue with friends. The seitan-based meat alternative delivers BBQ fun with a Mediterranean feeling in no time at all! Since we have already seasoned it with green olives and red and green peppers, you can sit back and relax and leave the rest of the work to the grill. In the mood for a holiday, but the weather isn't playing along? No problem! The steak made from wheat gluten can be prepared just as well in a pan or in the oven, brushed with a little oil. Simply fry whole or cut into bite-sized pieces either over a medium heat for a minute and a half on each side or place in the oven at 150° C (top and bottom heat) for 14 minutes on a baking tray. Unopened and in its original packaging, the vegan steak will keep at room temperature for at least 18 months. Once opened, you should store it in the fridge (0° C to 6° C) and consume it within 48 hours.
Our seitan steak in the Mediterranean variety contains a whole 21 g of protein per 100 g and is therefore rich in protein!
Yes, we only use ingredients of organic origin in the seitan steak!
You need 1 kg of flour, 750 ml of water, a bowl, a dough hook and a little patience. First mix the flour with the water using the dough hook and then let the dough rest for at least 30 minutes. Then add plenty of water to the dough and knead the ball of dough. Kneading washes out the starch, which can be seen in the white water that comes out. Repeat the process with fresh water until the water remains clear. Et voilà! Afterwards, the further processing method of your choice (e.g. boiling, baking) determines the firmness and taste of the seitan. Too much work for you? We understand. Make it easy on yourself and order organic seitan in a jar!
You need to know: Gluten is basically tasteless, as it consists only of wheat protein extracted from the wheat-water mixture. However, if you add spices, you get an aromatic, hearty and firm product that can be used wonderfully as a side dish or meat substitute. In the case of the Mediterranean seitan steak, green olives as well as green and red peppers provide a taste experience that will make you feel like you're on holiday!

I start from the premise that I love seitan even in its natural state, without anything as is, so this Mediterranean-style version could not help but blow me away, and I confirm that it exceeded my expectations. I will definitely buy it again



Not up to my standard of taste....

My taste expectations are corrupted by the high culinary quality of a Kiel vegan bistro, I admit. I have never eaten better meat substitutes anywhere, And that has consequences for everything you can buy. My test today for the Mediterranean seitan steak from Koro turned out disappointing. The steak strips at Cafe Blattgold are infinitely better - unfortunately, the owners won't tell me where they source them. I understand that - but I found the Koro steak strips neither Mediterranean nor flavorful. I roasted them with a vegetable dish and they tasted just fine to me.

Hmm... I guess I'll have to keep looking. But I have other Koko-Veggiemeat products in the test. Tastes are just different ...

My favorite saitan

My family and I like to eat the Mediterranean Saitan so much that I only order the 12 pack. I can recommend it especially with other Mediterranean ingredients like tomato, basil and mozarella as a casserole. Potato and mushrooms also go great with it :)

Delicious alternative to Sunday roast

We ate the seitan steak with salad. It is a good alternative when it should not be meat. It is very tasty seasoned and has a good, firm consistency.
Of course, it does not taste like a real steak, but that is not the claim. It is a well-seasoned, tasty alternative.

Unfortunately, there is no photo to it, because I ate up too quickly.
