Where are Medjool dates from?

Medjool dates originated in Morocco, but you can now also find them in Tunisia, Palestine, Israel and even California. There, the date palms can grow wonderfully thanks to the sandy soil and the warm temperatures. However, it takes a while - a whole 6 to 8 years - before they produce large yields! But it is worth the wait, because then the farmers can harvest up to 100 kg of the tasty fruit! To do this, they climb up the almost 20-metre-high plants and cut the ripe dates individually by hand.
