From oregano to bay leaf - our spice blend
First of all, one important thing: there is no one true recipe for the herb mix from Provence. Rather, typical herbs that are characteristic of the south of France always appear in every composition. Our dried herb combination consists of the Mediterranean classic oregano, the medicinal herb thyme, heavenly-scented rosemary, sweet marjoram, intense basil, spicy pepper, aromatic sage, spiced parsley and tangy bay leaves. Fun fact on the side: Traditionally, lavender is not a fundamental component of herbes de Provence. However, in many other European countries, the violet lavender flowers are usually added, mainly because of the widespread association with the Provence region.
How to use herbes de Provence
Our herb blend from Provence can be used for a wide variation of dishes. Basically, the Cuisine Française is known for classics such as Coq au Vin and Ratatouille, for which the herbs are a must-add to spread the typical aroma of Provence. For all those hungry for knowledge: Our herbs also go perfectly with the French national dish bouillabaisse - a two-part dish of fish soup and cooked fish with seafood! So bringst Du eine französisch-mediterrane Note in Deine Speisen. Zusätzlich sind unsere Kräuter bereits getrocknet und zerkleinert, sodass Du Dir keine Arbeit mehr vor der Verwendung machen musst. Prinzipiell unterscheiden sich Kräuter der Provence gegenüber italienischen Kräutern nur geringfügig. So finden sich in italienischen Kräutern zumeist Zutaten wie Schnittlauch, Zwiebeln, Tomate und Paprika. Provenzalische Kräuter werden häufig mit Wacholderbeeren und Liebstöckel veredelt.
