Bei der Kokospalme handelt es sich um ein Tropengewächs, welches seit mehr als 3.000 Jahren angebaut wird.

Die Kokosblüte

Erst nach einigen Jahren tragen Kokospalmen Blüten. Meist beginnen die Palmen Blüten zu tragen, wenn sie um die 7 Jahre alt sind. Sie tragen sowohl weibliche als auch männliche Blüten.

Süßer Kokosnektar

Pro Tag sondert eine Kokosnusspalme etwa zwei Liter Nektar ab. Die Blüten werden angeschnitten, um den austretenden Blütennektar aufzufangen.

Ergiebige Blüten

Um ein Kilo Kokosblütenzucker zu gewinnen, benötigt man circa 4 Liter Kokosnektar. Das heißt, dass eine Palme in nur 2 Tagen ungefähr einen Kilo Kokosblütenzucker produzieren kann.
