Where do Medjool dates come from?

Originally, Medjool dates come from Morocco, but nowadays you can also find them in Tunisia, Palestine, Israel and even California. There, date palms can grow freely thanks to the sandy soil and summer temperatures. However, it takes a while - a whole 6 to 8 years - before they produce large yields! But it is worth the wait, because, by that time, farmers can harvest up to 100 kg of the tasty fruit! To do this, they climb up the almost 20-metre-high plants and cut the ripe dates off one by one by hand. So that we in Germany and Europe can also enjoy the caramel-sweet Medjool dates, the fresh fruit is gently dried and thus preserved for longer.

Why are we so enthusiastic about Medjool dates? The difference to conventional dates lies first of all in their consistency. Their flesh is much softer and juicier than that of other date varieties and their skin is much thinner - which is why they feel almost creamy in the mouth! The taste also sets the "queen of dates" apart from the others, as its unmistakable, natural sweetness is reminiscent of delicious caramel. Where do Medjool dates come from?

Medjool dates originated in Morocco. In the meantime, however, they are also grown in Israel, Palestine and even California. There they feel particularly well because of the warm climate and the sandy subsoil and can thrive well.

Unfortunately, the conditions for dates in Germany are not optimal. Therefore, the dates are freshly harvested in their countries of origin and then dried. This way they can be kept longer and we can also enjoy the deliciously sweet fruits.

What is the shelf life of the dates?

Our organic Medjool dates can be wonderfully stored in the unopened original packaging in a cool, dark and dry place. Then their shelf life is at least 12 months. It is also possible to freeze the dates and store them at -18°C, which will keep them even longer. Then you can defrost the delicious sweet taste in portions and enjoy it even longer!
